After the 1906 earthquake, many houses were destroyed and Japanese residents found themselves relocating to the same area. However, after WWII and the Japanese-Americans were released from their internment camps many of their shops were taken away. SF Japantown is only one of the three Japantowns still functioning in the U.S today.
Home to San Francisco’s government institution, San Francisco’s City Hall and other federal buildings are all located within a short radius of Civic Center Plaza. Civic Center is also where main events like the Giants Parade, Gay Pride Parade and World Cup viewings take place bringing the city together.
